Character Development

(1/1)

One great thing about Jim's skill as a writer is his ability to show the many facets of a character. Just when you think you have a character pegged they reveal another side of themselves that makes them all the more intriguing.

(click to show/hide)Take Gwen for instance, who would have thought that our somewhat tactless would be soothe-sayer was also something of grease-monkey; I really enjoyed her scenes with Journeyman where we get to see that side of her. And Grimm and his ex...oh boy...

(click to show/hide)They are, to say the least, estranged. "Why did you marry her" implies only past wedded state, not necessarily current marriage. It may be that they are still married, for whatever reason up to and including "no such thing as divorce"--but it certainly does not appear that there is much lasting affection...

You know, it's interesting...

When I start a new series of novels I often find some characters seem lacking in any real character and it takes time before I can hear their distinctive "voices" in my head while I read the novel.

But I must say, right out from the gate - I could hear distinct voices for each character. I thought the characters developed very well through the novel.

The whole Grimm/Ransom thing though, I've seen that exact interaction type done many times before in TV and books, but I still find it fun.

I did. (click to show/hide)As soon as it was clear that she was going to board the Predator I thought she would become the Kaylee. In fact, I was disappointed Grimm didn't take a moment (after the battle was over) to thank her. If she hadn't help Journeyman, Predator would have been doomed
