Stay strong spything!  You can do it.  You just have to embrace your inner spygirl and then... victory shall be 'yours!'

4,303 (its only got three and a half chapters so far... it will be longer)
cureently a twist on urban fantasy
but its unlikely any one will ever read it... its only my 7th story to ever be written down and its a big working progress

*shrug* The first full-length novel I managed to write became my first published novel. Don't sweat about how much/little you've written in the past. Remember that every first draft is terrible, no matter who you are or how good you are. That's why we edit.

Okay, so urban fantasy. If it's for adults then you're looking at about 80,000 words. Very doable. Heck, after editing my first novel went from 80,000 to 55,000!

ha ha ha doable maybe
but as the longest thing I have managed so far is 35,000 words
it sounds like a lot...

yeah I try and edit
but most of the time if no one is yelling at me about deadlines I get really bored of it quickly and give up... ::)

This describes me from about a decade and a half until about a two years ago.  Doesn't mean you can't change it.  Its all about motivation girlthing!  When you find in yourself the ability to stop writing for fun and start writing because its your boring day job, then young padawan, a true spygirl will you be (que in dramatic star wars music)

*giggles*
I don't think writing would be a boring day job, it would depend on the topic you were writing about, and how interesting that topic is to the writer...
4,456
the reason I think I have had problems with editing before is because I already written the whole story so did not want to change any of it... so trying new method, edit each chapter after it is written. maybe it will work. we will see...
I can at least test the theory...

4,519 chapter 4 first draft finished

That might work, but it's risky.

My honest opinion is that you'd be better served in the long run getting over your reluctance to change what you've written, because when you work with an editor (either the publisher's for traditional publishing, or a freelancer for self-publishing) you will have to change things.

Falon - 115k

My advice is to find someone you trust who can help you with the editing and then try not to look while they are doing their job.  But whatever works, you can't know until you try it.  For me writing a chapter and then editing would kill the fun of writing more in short order but to each her own!

A reliable other-party to help with edits is invaluable.

Book 3 is up to 64,728 words.

I am mostly doing it to try different things out to see what works... its unlikely anyone will look at it let alone ever be submitted to a publisher...

Ah, I see. Well, whatever works for you and help get what you want from your writing. That's the important thing.

yeah...
maybe one day I will write something that is good enough to let others read it... but I highly doubt it will be this project... (and if it is it wont be any time soon)
