And here we go.

Through pass on Chapters 1 and 2 of #1, and on chapters 1 and 4 of #3, at the same time.

Chpater 2 of #3 needs a breakdown and almost-complete restructure, damn it.  And I think I need to swap things aroung in chapter 2 of #1 instead.  But at least I have a way forward now.

New short-term goal; get all 11 existing chapters of #3 sorted to my satisfaction by the end of June, before I have two weeks of visitors and possibly a week of major building work.

Sent my first novel, "Less than Honorable," to my beta readers today.  Final word count: 301,000.

Time for a deep breath, and then I will start on the sequel.

Cheers, everyone.  Keep up the good work!

Sent in my third story submission in as many weeks to BattleCorps, com -- and there's a fourth waiting for feedback from the Battletech Story workgroup. So, no novels, but the short stories are going well.... ;D

Spent five hours last night wresting with chapter 2 of volume 3.  It looks like I need to chop and shape bits from two quite different previous drafts as well as write a bunch new, but I hope i will get it finished Friday.

Wrote out the plot arc, and some sub-plot arcs for my second novel.  And now I've got my first 2,000 words of what will be my second novel.  It just proves there is no rest for the wicked, especially the for villain that is in the first scene.

Cackle, cackle, cackle.

Just out of curiosity, how long do each of you give your beta readers to give you some feedback?  I have promised myself not to bug anyone during this first week of getting a draft to them, but damn . . . it's difficult to avoid the temptation of calling them to see what they think so far.

I generally tell people I spend a month writing and a month editing.  As a rule of thumb, that way I'm going hint hint instead of give me your COMMENTS!!!! ARGHA!!!!  People have lives sadly enough.  and I've had to go about a week and a half once before anyone commented on my draft.  I figure two weeks and they've forgotten you and after a week its time for the old hint hint.

My favorite response if too many days go bye without a feedback is to simply get more beta readers.  At least that way I feel like I'm doing something to control getting this thing edited.  Really unless someone else owes you for reading their stuff you kind of need to go with the flow and wait.

And that's 53,618 words. Book 3 is easily going to be the longest in the series.
