I gave it a try when I was writing Silent Oath. I worked on another book on the weekends, and ended up not really going anywhere with it.

Once Lady Raven is done, I'll switch to my next urban fantasy series, get the first of that written, then see where I'm at.

My brother stopped about half way through his third book in his first series and switched over to starting a new novel which is about 2/3rds done at this point.  He was feeling uninspired in his main series.

I would say that it doesn't matter how many books you have on going (although I strongly advise not leaving too many hanging as that can lead to not finishing anything!).  You just have to stay mono-focused on 'whatever' it is you're writing.

Like you I can't write a few k on one book and switch to writing a few k on the other.  I need to be immersed in whatever it is I'm doing.

Continue to crank out pages, but discouraged over the quality. Three days ago, I wrote my best and most emotionally filled scene ever--rough draft junk but good. And then bang, the next day the rest wouldn't flow. Yesterday, with a head to desk moment, I realized that I wasn't done with the last scene and couldn't leave it yet. I backed up and came at the transition again and now patching in the stuff I wrote yesterday. My typical 1000 a day scrapped to about 500 each day... Hoping to get back in the flow tomorrow and make up the word count this weekend.

The rise and fall of emotions as I write never fails to amaze me. OTOH, in the midst of first draft, I also have no true judgement call on the quality--just the raw emotional impact. Keep writing. Keep writing. Keep writing.
