I just had a computer crash and took my laptop in for repair. My yahoo back up wasn't completing its virus scan so I couldn't download it from there. And I hadn't backed up to my flash drives in a while. Thank goodness they were able to get directly into my sata hard drive and get my 85k file of Admiral's Revenge. so even thought it doesn't count as forward progress, making sure you have weeks of work in hand is lots better than a big fat negative number!

Glad you were able to salvage your work! Dropbox + Scrivener is your friend. Scrivener backs up every 5 seconds and you can set it to save straight to Dropbox. Had a power outage a week or so ago that would have cost me a couple thousand words and a heap of revisions/corrections, but all I had to do was open the archived file in dropbox.
