That's why I started out somewhere fairly anonymous like Baen's Bar. Just throw something up there and see what people say. It took several years to build up a thick enough skin to be able to take the critisism like I need to. Like everyone i have my good days and my bad days but for the most part I can siphon the good stuff out where I need it.
That said not only did the Bar inspire me to become a write, in part thanks to some comments over there I took a several year hiatus from writing and focused back on the day job exclusively.
So you've got to know yourself first. However and with that in mind I'd always say nothing ventured nothing gained. You've got to build up a thick skin if you want to get anywhere with writing, unless its just for you and selected friends and family.
Its sad but really and honestly the only way to get better with writing is just simply to write. Like Wordmaker the first full lengthed novel I wrote was the first one I put up for sale. Admiral Who came out april of last year and I wrote most of it over the course of a month (about 80%). That was my first time writing so much and so quickly. You just have to get your back up against the wall and refuse to accept no from the back of your brain.
Regardless just keep plugging away, girlwolf. You'll get there eventually. Just don't let anyone, not even yourself, get you down.

I know most of it though
my worst enemy right now is me...
sometimes the voice in the back of my head needs a good kicking... and I need to stop listening to it...
I think that is my major problem really... its not that I can't its more I chicken out ::)
but this summer we are going to stay focussed and by september I will have finished the first draft! (at least that is the plan)
I just need to right and shut out the stupid voice in the back of my head...
(you have written 2,000 words in the space it has taken me to edit chapter 4 have on lesson and start chapter 5. and do about 5 posts here. you write fast.)

I was slacking pretty hardcore most of today, so I've been feeling the burn to get something down on canvas as it where. Even then I'm not going nearly as fast as I should be. Only about 3.5k so far today and I think I'm about to call it a night.
three plus K aren't going to be winning me any races or awards but I should get to the finish line eventually at this rate. Right now I just need another evening training lesson with random scenery encounters with people in the army column/camp. then some time passage and talk about running low on extra food stuffs because at the end of the army. After that its seeing the Knights and Lords and theri tent set up and then the battlefield encampment followed by the big battle. I might just throw in the pink princess there.
Another good 20k to write easy. But it could run to 40k. Boy I sure hope not.
Anyway I'm starting to ramble over here. Its late, my eyes are sleepy and rambling is never a good sign. So take care spygirl and take care.
