Probably not, you don't get to move an entire trapping like mental defense without some sort of limiting factor anyway...

Eh, most trappings can be transplanted wholesale. I don't think mental defence is powerful enough to require a limiting factor.

Physical defense is, rather explicitly. Why would mental be less so? I mean, it's less common, but also often nastier when it comes up.

I dont think that physical defense does. The example in the book is Shot on the Run and he only needs a gun next to him because that makes sense with the fact that he is defending with guns. Its not "can defend with guns against fairy kind".

Having to have the gun is still a restriction, though, and a pretty big one. And it's not just for thematic reasons as they suggest other alternatives...it's just too powerful a trapping to gain wholesale. Footwork gets the whole thing...but Fists already has part of it, making it still not 1 Stunt for the whole thing.

And I did mention 'demons' (just like 'Fairies') being too restrictive...

People roll physical defence all the bloody time. Mental defence comes up a lot less.

I have not found the consequences of failing it to be worse than the consequences of failing physical defence rolls. The most common mental attacks are attempts to disable combatants with Incite Emotion, which are about as nasty as attempts to punch  someone out. Mind control happens, but so does death so...

PS: Lavecki, would you like to take the Limitation discussion to the Power list thread?
