Outlines?  Maybe the Big Poster arc like JB describes in his Writing Blog?

I like to spend some time planning the course before I actually start writing the chapters.  Actually I have a habit of spending too much time planning and never getting around to writing the actual text, so Im on the other end of the spectrum.

That sounds like you could do with a bit of concentrated self-care to get into a better frame of mind for writing.  In that state, after doublechecking to make sure I am OK on food and sleep and so on (I am very bad at remembering to eat when I am stressed) I usually watch dumb movies or play Civ for a while and then try again.

That can totally mess with my concentration and ability to write.

Go to bed, get some sleep, let us know if it helps.

Lack of sleep can definitely cause concentration problems.

I dunno, back in college I accomplished some long writing sessions while severely sleep deprived.  Granted a small percentage of what I wrote made any sense at all once I had rested up...  :P

Perhaps then, like me, you are a discovery writer.  Try writing without the outline and see where things go.  Plan a couple steps ahead, but don't sweat a full outline.  Holding the plot together can be rough, but if I managed then so can you.
