Sponsored magic, from egypt?
« on: August 03, 2011, 11:24:18 AM »
Hey guys,

I've finally managed to goad someone in to gm-ing a game in new orleans and I'm gonna play an apprentice wizard, or rather a sorceror looking for an apprentice.

One of the things about the character is that she's dug herself a hole, and it turned out that there was a snake at the bottom. Apep (or apophis as an aspect or servant of Set) and he tricked her through her inexperience to give up her name in exchange for his help. Which means she's wound up with sponosred magic with a darkness/desert kind of theme.

How would this sponsored magic work out? How would it help her magic and what sort of tricks would it give her?

The sheet's still under development here.

I think something along the lines of entropomancy should suit Apep quite well. I would probably treat it similar to Hellfire, but it would be a +1 to spells that are meant to create chaos or corrosion instead. No loud boom destruction magic, slow, acidic, crumbling destruction.

Sounds good. I was thinking along the same lines, or perhaps dessication or drought for the various evocation themes. Or desert sand.

How would the thaum at the speed of evocation be expressed?

Well, eroding something with a small desert storm would certainly fit the motif, so you can add that as well.

thaum at the speed of evocation just means, that you can take some of the perks of thaumaturgy and use them at a moments notice. I just don't have any examples at the moment.

Ahh, well, that would have been the second option, for which I did not opt :p On a side-note, I saw from your profile you are terribly close-by, in Zwolle?

In the case of Apep, entropy curses would be suitable - and very nasty.  But Apep is one of the few real bad guys in Egyptian mythology.
