I have sort of a self-centered question... Did someone mention fanfics at the con or something?  I'm abruptly getting a huge spike in readership and "favorite story" of the two Dresden fanfics I wrote and posted on fanfic.net  Not that I'm complaining!  Not at all.  I'm just wondering why after all these months, there's a bunch of new readers all of a sudden.  :D

This is from my Con-Addled brain, so bear with me...

Jim did talk about FanFic in one of his Q&A's.  He said something like he used to treat fan fiction as "What FanFiction?  If I acknowledge it then I have to exercise my Copy Right and stomp all over the people who are most rabid about my writing."  Now with "Creative Commons" he can acknowledge that we have the right to write FanFic as long as we avoid monetary reimbursement.

Thanks

Ah, there you are! Did you enjoy the rest of the con?

I enjoyed MarsCon a lot.  It wasn't as big as Baltimore ComicCon, which they say is pretty small for a ComicCon, but the only other Con I've been too.  MarsCon felt... tight knit? Or was that the large influx of Dresdenphiles?

It wasn't too long after I got to talk with you Sunday that I got the call. My wife and daughter wanted to meet up for lunch.  Jim left, I'd met up with a bunch of people from the forum, I figured I'd head out.  It was a weekend well spent.

I wanna do it again!  And this time have a little more time to hang out with people.  Lesson learned:  it might be cheaper to drive back and forth from Williamsburg to home, but not having to leave early would have been WELL worth it.

Also: Can I get the recipe for the marshmallow chocolate s'more like things that were shared at the fan dinner?

Yeah, I'll get that when I get home.

And it's definitely worth it staying in the hotel for small cons like that.

Especially considering how inexpensive the hotel was!  Split four ways, my share of the room for two nights was $35.

The Motel 6 next door was $30/night for 1 person.  Opened to the outside though.

Which is fine, unless the doors weren't airtight?

Some people feel more secure if the doors open to a hallway.  I was using it as an indicator of how it wasn't as nice a place as the Host hotel, but there weren't beds left for me.

We asked for a cot for our room but the mattress frame was too big to fit anywhere.  :D

What Serack is neglecting to mention is that he forgot to get a reservation anywhere.  I let him use the second bed in my room (a double being cheaper than a single for some reason) and when I went to pay the extra $15-$20 nusiance charge, being a fine upstanding citizen (stop laughing!), the lady working the desk just stared at us with her mouth agape and said:

"Nobody's ever admitted to adding a person before.  Let me get you an extra key.  No charge."

So I gave her a beer as thanks.
Okay, I flipped the breaker, pulled the fuses, and blew up the transformer.

Why are my lights still on?
