Hey, I just wanted to make a thread for one of the authors on here and say I've picked up a copy of the book.

I'll post a review here as soon as I'm done with it.

Cool, I didn't know it was out yet. It's been on my to buy list for months since Richelle has been on here. Off to find a copy.

Under romance, or scifi/fantasy section?

I looked for it yesterday (day before, now, actually) at B&N and couldn't find it under either romance or sci-fi.

Let me know, too, because I really wanted to read it.

I ordered it from B&N last week--B&N's website calls it "contemporary fantasy," so I'd check there first.  It's a trade-sized paperback, so that might help you find it on the shelves--IOW, it wouldn't be in with the regular-sized ones, depending on how your store shelves them.

Grrr, I dislike trade paperbacks!

They normally put them together, from hardcover to trade to regular paperbacks.

I will have to check again.  Thanks for the help Darla!

Oh, wow.  I'm half-asleep and suddenly see my book title as a thread topic!  Thanks for the interest, all! It's really appreciated.

What I've been hearing is that B&N has it listed under regular fiction, and Borders has it under romance.  I consider it urban fantasy and would expect it to be shelved there...but, well, I'm just the author.  What do I know?

Seriously...thanks so much to those who are picking it up.  I hope you enjoy it!

I tried to find it at Borders, no luck so far.

With any luck, that means that as a first time author, they didn't order many, and they're already sold out. ;)

I picked up a copy at Borders yesterday, and discovered something you may want to pass on to the editor, Richelle.  I dunno if there's anything they can do about it or if it was just my Borders or what.

Since I knew there was some confusion over where your book was shelved, I went to one of Borders' Find-A-Book computer stations to search for it.  (That, and I didn't know Richelle's last name.  :D  You mean they don't alphabetize books by an author's first name?!)  I searched by title, and did find the book... but the computer listed it as "Not yet published".

I went to the shelf, and sure enough there was one copy left.  Picked it up, took it to the Information desk.

Me:  Hi.  There's a new book out, Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead?
Her:  *typetypetype*  It's not yet published, I'm sorry. Would you like to pre-order?
Me:  *holds up book* No, I'll just take this copy.
Her:  *looks at book, looks at computer, brain freezes*

Sure, I could've just told her, but I wanted to go for the dramatic impact of it all.  She said she'd talk to the manager about it.  I don't know how this is affecting sales (presumably it's only a problem if someone is searching for it like I was, shelf-browsers wouldn't have this problem), but it might be affecting their ability to order your book.

I haven't had time to start it yet (archaeology test today, also a presentation and paper on Barbara A. Biesecker's Rethinking the Rhetorical Situation... hell, even I'm asleep now), but I did crack it open in the parking lot while waiting for Outback to open.  Next thing I knew, it was fifteen minutes later.  So that bodes well!

I looked at Barnes & Nobles, but no luck. I did find the last copy that they had at Borders.
I have started it, but only just.

My Borders had it as published last weekend, in the Romance section...but there weren't any copies left.

Ok, here's my so-far, non-ass-kissing review of Succubus Blues.

Seriously?  This is your first book?

Very strong, especially for a 'freshman' effort.  Clear, well-defined characters; an interesting plot; I'm enjoying the succubus angle.  The world's got a cohesive feel to it, I 'understood' the rules very early on.  When I compare it to, say, Kim Harrison's first book, this one comes out way ahead in terms of clarity and style.  Not that I don't like Harrison's books, but that first one needed some serious literary deep conditioner.

I really, really, really, really appreciate Georgia.  I am fed up to my eyeballs with heroines who can be described as "tough as nails woman who doesn't take crap from anyone".  It's like someone told the world, "You can only be a strong female if you're a total bitch who constantly reminds everyone how she doesn't need any help from anyone" and everyone obediently trotted off to write up those kinds of heroines.  Georgia's strong, she's gorgeous but I don't feel like I'm getting my face rubbed in it (maybe because it's part of who she is and what she is, not an add-on for the author to live out some fantasy), she's still feminine and a woman without being a bitch.  Forgive me if I start pointing to your book from now on whenever I want to talk about a strong, non-bitch female lead.

I'm not quite done yet.  Let's see if I can talk about how far I am without giving away a spoiler...   Umm... She has a new roommate.  That's how far I've gotten. ;)  I think I know who the bad guy is, and it'll make me cry if I'm right, but it's the only answer that makes sense to me so far.

Oh!  And I love the little glimpses into a writer's life.  I laughed at how Seth acts when he's writing, and the description of his room with all the little coded messages he leaves for himself. ;D  SO familiar.

Kudos.  An excellent book, and I sincerely do look forward to the next one.  Oh, and yeah, it's urban fantasy.  Borders is on crack.

OMG I finally found it today!  Had to ask an associate to help--turns out it was in fiction--and now I'm reading it!

So far so good!  I should have it finished tomorrow... ;D
