They have a bot that crawls the forums as a guest.  I know that's how it works on the (very small) forum I run.  I've seen guests that when you check the IP address...it links back to Google.

Interesting.

Guests can't view certain sections though, (loging out quickly showed this is the case with the WoJ section.  Outside the forums, I have in more than one place where I had trouble posting links, suggested that people google "DF WoJ" because the compilation is the first hit.  I suspect that my sig showing up over 1k times, with the compilation linked in it each time will maintain that #1 hit status, (it's what shows up in the hit) but I'm not positive I am sure how the algorithem works...
