Jim at New York Comic Con - Oct 8-10, 2010
Niccos Shadow:
I wont be there but just a thought...
Have you tried any local steak / wing house type places? I know down here they'll let you reserve larger amount of seats in advance and people can just order whatever they want off the menu which even the 'expensive' stuff is pretty affordable.
That and you could look into reserving a dining area from one of the local Motels. Company I used to work for did this a lot for meetings , training, etc.
Priscellie:
Yeah, I'm hoping to find a place where we can do under $25 a head, including the space. I'm thinking my ideal place has no cover, and folks can just order whatever they want off the menu.
I wonder if the Irish Rogue or Bullmoose Saloon would be more reasonable...
Kris_W:
Yet another idea – Call the New York public library, tell them you're organizing a literary event, and ask if they have someone who arranges for functions. See if she (or he) has a list of venues in your price range. The locals ought to know the good spots, and libraries ought to be a soft touch for helping out an author.
You might have a look at a reservation site like Open Table, too.

That's a really awesome idea. And I'm actually returning a big stack of books to NYPL this evening...

Bullmoose, reasonable prices, and they're already acclimated to dealing with Geeks.
