That takes me to the bottom of page 29.

I am certain that more of the mortals with 0 posts and bizarre site addies are spammers, than these, but these seemed to be so obvious that I didn't think I was going to wrongly accuse.

Darn it. I've had the CAPTCHA stuff in place to try to shut these dudes out, but they've apparently gotten more inventive lately. I'll do what I can to figure out what mods I can install to better address this, but this installation is pretty persnickety when it comes to handling new installations of modules (based on the fact that I have to manually install the spoiler tag whenever a software update blows it away), and my time's tight right now.

Any SMF experts wanna point me at the right modules to install to combat this stuff?

Wow Blaze! You go! Its odd once you start looking, isn't it? I found one by accident... then just trying to get the mouse to cooperate the website addresses popped up... Madness!

I'll just start from the end of the list and we can meet somewhere in the middle! we'll root out the evil.... bwhahahahaha!

I'm not an SMF expert by any means, but I do have some time these days, so I'm willing to look into it for you, if you'd like.

Can't say I'd bothered looking before. I might check the profile of someone I'm replying to, but not otherwise.
By checking the websites aren't we possibly funding them with our hits?
Just a thought.

Any help along the lines of "consider these steps to lock down against spammers:" is good. I suck at research. I do fine once I have a list of tasks to implement.

Under registration> settings, require member activation and set highest word verification, if you haven't already.  That might cut back a little bit.

My board is so easy... I just lock out registration at all ;)  Guess that's not an option here.

I'll poke around the SMF forums tonight and see what I can find.

No, the site address appears if you just mouse-over. I don't click the link.

I only happened on one looking for someone else... so I got curious. I guess that whole Pandora's box thing is true...  :-\

Okay, I've banned all the folks up to this post.  I'll tackle the rest later.  Thank you so much, Blaze!  You're a rock star!

My pleasure, I love the forum, and so protecting the forum is a pleasure.

I will keep going, as I have time.  You know, they are all mortals with zero posts, and randomly generated names...  It makes them easy to spot from the main list.
